Poster analysis of "the strangers"

This is a very effective poster. By observing this I have noticed the emphasis is on the burning title with a glow around it, this connotes a piercing high - pitched sound in the audience's mind. The font used for the heading and anchorage text links well with the image, as it portrays mystery. The typography used for all the text on the page is plain and basic, it gives no clues to what you are going to expect in the film and is again a mystery which the audience must reveal this creates a huge impact. The poster includes the couple who we can clearly see are the victims and it also shows the villains. I have discovered there is a height level difference which creates vulnerability on the victims part as they are sitting down, whilst the villains are standing up n front of them facing the camera which conveys that they are more powerful. Also the couple's backs facing towards the camera almost in torment. This questions the audience's mind and creates curiousity. Facial expressions in a poster are vital but this has been mastered using masks for the villains, it informs us they have no emotions and also we can immediately presume that the masked people are villains who will perform inhumane vicious tasks on couple. The use of colours blend in well together. The casual stants of "the strangers" is enough to set a huge impact on the audience. I feel this poster is a huge success in generating sales as it fits the codes and conventions of horror and the slogan "BECAUSE YOU WERE HOME" is clearly has a blood curdling effect on the audience. This shows that from something that looks so simple and basic truly has a powerful effect on the audience.
